Free as the Hummingbird

Be gone, hummingbird!
Rest soundly and be assured by the swiftness of your inner being
Dart around the trees, buzzing in the ears of the unsuspecting
be as free in yourself as you are in the world
Calm, quaint, beautiful
Oh! how I wish I was as free as a hummingbird
But, alas, I am in a cage of my own self
And choking on my thoughts

I think the little hummingbird brings out the best in us. How does such a tiny little thing have such an impact on one's soul?

I spotted my first hummingbird of the season yesterday, late afternoon. I had just finished planting my second mixed planter full of colorful flowers, and placed them in front of the half-finished pergola we are building. He flew past me, and just kissed a petunia, as if to say "We're back, and thank you for the flowers!"
I dropped everything, cleaned the feeders and made the nectar to set out the next morning!

The pergola has 7 posts, and you can be sure each post will host an invitational vine for our little friends.
