Hummingbird Feeders

Hummingbird feeders are available in a variety of sizes and styles.

Both plastic and glass feeders are popular.

What is the "BEST Hummingbird Feeder"?

Plastic are inexpensive but there are elegant and decorative feeders, made of hand blown glass and crafted copper.

One style is a platform or tray feeder.

The platform type feeder usually has a tray or saucer with several ports serving as access holes to the nectar.

There are "vacuum and tray" type feeders which operate with a container serving as the reservoir for the nectar.

Another vacuum type is a "vacuum and tube" style.

There are feeders that hang with hooks, others stick to a window and others stake into the ground or into a hanging flower basket.

The "window feeders" can provide an up close and personal entertaining show!

Ever see a hummingbird drink a "Martini" or a "Daiquiri"?

Yes, some unique feeders come as Martini or Daiquiri glasses!

Recycle Your Bottles!

For the economical: Kits are available which include the tray and hanging apparatus while you supply the recycled bottle (a common bottle with a screw top).

For the DIY (Do-it-Yourself) crowd I will show you how to make two types of homemade feeders:

Are you still wondering what is the "BEST Feeder"?

Keep in mind that location is critical for the placement of feeders.

When placing a new feeder for the first time, you should try to position the feeder close to flowers in the wild, in a garden or flowering shrubs and vines.

These locations are natural attractions to the hummingbird.

As they check these areas for food they will discover the welcoming hospitality of your feeders.

If there is not an abundance of attracting flowers, shrubs or vines nearby, there a simple tip we learned from a friend.

Hang red ribbons from the feeders to initially attract the birds.

All feeders will serve the purpose to attract and feed the hummingbird.
