Another excellent video submitted from Canada by our friend Joe Vass.
The slow motion effect allows for an up and close and personal encounter with these gorgeous hummingbirds.
This allows us the observation of the unique ability of the hummingbird to "Hover" in place.
They can also fly forwards, backwards and upside down!
This is only bird with these capabilities.
We like to hang a Fuchsia plant on our porch to watch our hummers fly acrobatically while sipping nectar.
To learn more about "Hummingbird Flight", see our Flight Page.
Our Contributor's Note:
Each spring hummingbirds return to Christina Lake BC from their wintering grounds in Mexico and the Caribbean. It's an epic journey of thousands of miles, then the world's smallest birds spend a brief time mating and feeding before returning to the warm climate south. I love watching them and although they are small and appear somewhat fragile, they are actually quite aggressive, at least to other hummingbirds.
