No Flights Have Been Cancelled!
The Hummingbirds Are On Their Way!

We have received sightings up into Southern New England this week a little farther north than our last newsletter.

The Hummers are definitely on the move.

By Mid-May the hummingbird migration is winding down!

Looking at last years map, I see sightings in Mid-May up into Canada, the end of a long journey!

Most areas in the U.S. have their friends back by the end of the month. We, up north, usually have to wait until May to see our feathered friends!

So far, the migration seems to be on schedule for our beloved hummingbirds.

SUBMIT YOUR SIGHTING, You can submit your sightings with our "Submission Form" to our "Interactive Migration Map"!

Please post your sightings to help everyone following the migration.

Why Post Your Sighting?

Reporting your sightings will help everyone to keep track of the migration progress and prepare feeders for their arrival.

It will also help us with the data that is kept from year to year to note any pattern changes

We recommend putting your feeders out 2 weeks before the estimated arrival date of your Hummers.

You will find a map and table of the estimated dates when the Ruby-throats will arrive in the East.

There are also regional maps of other species such as the Rufous, Allen's, Anna's, Calliope, Costa's, Black-chinned and Broad-tailed.

Visit Our Migration Page to Learn More About the Hummingbird Migration and Their Estimated Arrival Dates!

This is a good time to get your
"Hummingbird Gear" out!

Check your feeders for damage or leaks and maybe replace them. Make sure they are clean and you have all the accessories you need such as an ant moat to keep those pesky ants off your feeders or a "Hummer Helper Helmet" to shade your feeders in the hot sun.

Have You Ever Seen
a Hummingbird Nest!

Our Friend from Ridgecrest California Has!

Here is His Story!

"I'm Don Howard
I live in Goodyear, AZ. Have two feeders there. I think they are Ruby too as the males have the red throat.

However, my son bought a fixer upper in Ridgecrest, CA. I travel to Ridgecrest every other week to help him out doing menial tasks, like cleaning up the yard, cutting boxes, and holding stuff. I have time to sit around.

When we first got to Ridgecrest, in February, I noticed an abandoned Hummingbird nest on the awning support. I did not touch it and I am glad. Last Thursday there was a little girl on it. She was very skittish, but not so much now.

I put up a feeder. Other Hummingbirds are using it, but I have not seen her use it. She is very protective and even had another girl come by and were fighting, all the way to the ground.

I have no idea why she returned to such a precarious place. The awning had a tree limb fall on it and the supports look as if it's ready to collapse.

We were going to work on it this weekend, but our plans have been put on hold".

Don managed to get a photo of the eggs in the nest when mama flew off for food.

What a Great Story!
