Resting
I was sooo excited to see "my" hummers back. The shrub that serves as a resting spot is about 3 feet from the feeder. Hummingbirds are my favorite bird I look forward to the arrival of them every spring.
That's a nice picture that you took. I don't have a camera. If I did, I would love to take some photos of my hummingbirds. Aren't they the prettiest?

Good idea to put your feeder near a bush.Hummingbirds perch alot. I don't think they walk. Some people believe that they never rest. That is not true as we see in your photo. Sometimes they are guarding their feeders. My hummers do that. They perch and then take some nectar as long as they don't get chased away.I can't wait for my hummingbirds to come back this year. I looked at the migration map from last year. So I think I can expect them to come about mid April. I think it's about the same every year. I think they come when there is food. So maybe, they will be early this year.It is a warm year. How do they travel so far to South America? That boggles my mind. I admit I wouldn't mind joining them in South America for the winter.I don't like cold weather either.

resting on a branch by: Anonymous
My hummingbirds do that too. I think they are digesting their food. They are very fast and have a fast digestion. So I was told that they eat and then sit on a branch to digest, then eat again, then digest again. Whow!! I would get tired doing that all day. To top it off they have to fight for the feeder. Last summer I had some real feisty ones. Sometimes you think they might hurt each other but I don't think that they do. They are fun to watch and we know that they are watching us.

I am enjoying your photograph. Isn't it exciting when our hummingbirds come back. Someone told me that they remember where their feeders are. So they return to the same feeders every year. I think that is incredible. How can such a tiny bird have that kind of a memory. I forget where I put my keys.Ha!
